Unlocking the material world of tomorrow with karuun®:
How can materials research unlock values such as sustainability, inclusion, and social relevance while also opening up new commercial opportunities? The Future-Making-Lab, concipated by UnDesignUnit, explored new approaches from materials research and transformed them into future application scenarios.
Participants delved into the latest advancements in materials research that intersect with design disciplines during an interdisciplinary exchange. Through an introduction to innovative design methods and their application, workshop participants had the opportunity to experiment with fresh approaches and incorporated them into their own entrepreneurial endeavours. The exploration focus: to lead a paradigm shift, creating new possibilities for action, and fostering innovations that focus on social, ethical, ecological, and economic impacts.
In the workshop, participants heared from Vera Schenkemeyer and Moritz Köhn, members of the out for space team, as they presented karuun® as an outstanding example of an innovative and sustainable material. Moritz, with his creative prowess, has played a pivotal role in shaping the product developments associated with karuun® right from the start. Meanwhile, Vera brings her wealth of expertise in advising clients on sustainable architecture and replacing plastic.
The “Future-Making Lab” took place as part of the Material+ exhibition at the Neues Museum Nürnberg. The workshop has been supported by bayern design and the Bavarian Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development, and Energy.
