A year full of awards!

The idea of using rattan to develop materials has made karuun®
a finalist for the German Sustainability Award, winner of the Bioeconomy Innovation Award Baden-Württemberg and
“Startup of the Year” at the SignsAward.

The German Sustainability Award is Europe’s largest award for sustainable companies, architecture, design and sport and is based on the goals of Agenda 2030 in areas such as climate, biodiversity, resources, supply chain and society. karuun® was one of the three finalists in the raw materials industry category. This is a great recognition of our vision to make the world a little more sustainable.

Another milestone is winning the Bioeconomy Innovation Award Baden-Württemberg 2023. karuun® wins the ideas competition “Bioeconomy – Sustainable thinking, future-proof!” with its Nature Tech Material, which replaces fossil, oil-based materials. The price will be awarded on 20 November 2023 at Hohenheim Castle by Peter Hauk, Minister of Food, Rural Areas and Consumer Protection. On 16 November 2023, Raimund Haser, Member of the State Parliament and Deputy Chairman of the CDU Parliamentary Group, and Dieter Krattenmacher, Mayor of Kißlegg, congratulated the company on this outstanding achievement: “The young company Karuun from Kißlegg is impressive proof that qualified young people with good ideas and perseverance can not only shape the future in the metropolises, but can also be successful locally. The award from the state is a wonderful recognition of Karuun’s pioneering work for a more sustainable economy”.

The highlight was the “Startup of the Year” award at the SignsAward 2023 at BMW Welt in Munich. The SignsAward honours socially recognised, courageous and innovative people and companies, recognises pioneers in society and positions itself as a strong influence and driving force in the field of social leadership. This year, eleven young companies presented their ideas and solutions for climate and environmental protection in a 3-minute pitch.

At the end, karuun® came out on top with its technology for sustainable material development from rattan, which helps to protect the rainforest. This innovative alternative to plastic convinced the jury. karuun® is the new “Startup of the Year”, selected by Business Punk at the SignsAward in Munich. Together with the car manufacturer Nio, the company we succeed in making 100,000 vehicles plastic-free by 2022, said Felix Horn, managing director of out for space, on the SignsAward stage in Munich.
